Notes:
This wheel is from an oxcart. Included in the images are two pictures from the collections guide to the Euskal Arkeologia, Etnografia eta Kondaira Museoa in Bilbao, Spain that show similar oxcart wheels still attached to a cart. This wheel (and object 2003.008.002) was acquired in 1967 by Margaret Zerwekh while visiting the Basque country with her husband. They purchased two oxcart wheels and an oxen yoke from a "blacksmith shop/farm" just outside of Gernika. She thought it might have been southwest of Gernika, "as we were heading for Compostella." Object should be stored in Collections Room 1, against the wall with an ethafoam pad support until it is used for an exhibit.

Object is a wheel (32" in diameter) from an oxcart. It is constructed from wood and iron. Most of the iron is oxidized, and much shows stable corrosion. Some iron parts appear to be extremely brittle and very fragile. The wood appears stable, but some areas appear very fragile. Some parts of the wood show insect damage (worm holes.) Object is very similar to 2003.008.002 but in a more severe state of disrepair. The outer iron band is broken at one point. Additionally, there is a wooden "shim" inserted between the outer iron band and the inner wooden wheel.
