Denise Duhart

Denise Duhart

Denise Duhart’s family came from Behe Nafarroa and Lapurdi to La Puente, California, near Chino, where many Basques had settled.  When she was a child her parents encouraged her to learn how to play the piano accordion. She has since mastered the instrument. Denise also has been the accompanist for the Gauden Bat Basque Dancers.

Denise actively participated in the Basque accordion festivals held every 10 years in California. The first one (1994) was organized in San Francisco to honor the three main Basque-American accordionists, Jimmy Jausoro, Bernardo Yanci and Pedro Juan Etchemendy. In 2004 and 2014 the festival was held in Bakersfield.

Denise’s versatility on the accordion can be heard in these clips from the 1994 festival.
