Julian Landa was born on 22 August 1936 in Boise, Idaho, to Juan Landa and Martina Cenega.  He describes his father's colorful immigration to the US, and his mother's youth.  Juan and Martina wed after meeting in a sheep camp.  The family spoke mostly English as Julian was growing up, since even though Juan never mastered the language, he wanted his kids to succeed in America.  Julian has many fond memories of his youth, including Basque food, farm chores and school.

When Julian graduated form high school in 1954, he served in the National Guard for six years, after which he remained on the family farm.  He married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Roland, in 1957, and the couple has raised three sons.

There are many more Basque activities in Homedale now that Julian has children of his own, and his sons have participated in a Basque dancing group.  The whole family belongs to the Homedale Basque Association.  Julian has only made one trip to Euskadi, but remains very proud of his heritage today.
