Educational Presentation: Basque Burials
Local Basque Burials and Morris Hill Cemetery Basque Sections Tour
The first Basque surnames in Boise appeared in the 1891 City Directory. Since that time, thousands have immigrated to this area. Some did return, but many began their new lives here and remain as part of this city’s cemeteries, their grave markers, a testament to the many families who came here. Join Liz Hardesty, who conducted a three-year project to identify Basques buried at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise, Idaho, as she provides interesting information concerning local Basque burials and will lead the group on a tour of the Basque sections at Morris Hill. 120 previously unmarked graves were marked with bronze markers and a large monument was erected to honor those Basques whom we know are buried at Morris Hill, but didn't have specific burial plot information.
